Hexham Old Gaol

Hexham Old Gaol is England’s oldest purpose-built prison, dating back to 1333. Step into Northumberland’s past and discover the important moments from the region’s turbulent history. Dress up, watch a film, hunt for skulls, try the feely boxes and get crafty making shields or rubbing brass. Or test the stocks for size if you dare!

Price: Adults £8 (£7 without optional donation), Concessions £7 (£6 without optional donation) and under 18s free. Pay once and enjoy unlimited repeat visits for 12 months.

Opening times: 12 April – 2 November 2025, Wednesday – Sunday, 10am – 4pm (closed Monday and Tuesday). Open 7 days a week during the school summer holidays.
